Compare real hardwood and finishes under your own lighting before choosing them for a future Rasterdeck wood product. Configure four to 24 individual samples, each with one of nine hardwood species and two distinct finish systems. One finish covers Face A and its matching cross-cut and rip-cut edges; the other covers Face B and its matching edges. Two thin polished brass markers on each broad face identify those matching surfaces: each is an approximately quarter-inch-square insert driven edge-on into the wood near an adjacent edge or corner, with its thin plate edge visible on the face and the insert continuing approximately a quarter inch down the corresponding end-grain or edge-grain side. Use the finished samples as coasters after making your comparison. Optional ebony, polished brass, or combined opposite-end inlays cost $20, $40, or $60 per sample on one face, and $40, $80, or $120 on both faces. Four samples cost $100; each additional sample costs $20 before end inlay choices. For each full $100 of paid kit merchandise, receive $50 in credit toward a future eligible Rasterdeck wood product. Natural grain and color vary; illustrations and display settings cannot show exact wood colors.

Included
Four or more individually configured hardwood and finish samples, up to 24
Two distinct finish systems on opposite broad faces of each sample, with matching cross-cut and rip-cut edge finishes
Two thin polished brass edge-on markers per broad face identify which face and edge surfaces share a finish

$50 future eligible wood-product credit for each full $100 of paid kit merchandise
What it does not do
Natural species, grain and finish variations make each piece distinct; a future product will not have identical grain or screen color.
Wipe spills promptly and protect the wood from standing water and excessive heat. Do not put the pieces in a dishwasher.
No heatproof or waterproof performance is claimed.
Credit is calculated from full $100 increments of paid kit merchandise; it is not cash.
End inlays are priced per sample and per face: two faces cost twice the one-face price.

Explore the wood species
Wood illustrations show unfinished and clear-finished faces. The piano comparison shows opaque black and red finishes on opposite faces of one sample. Your monitor or phone can change how colors appear; grain and color vary naturally. Optional polished brass and ebony end inlays are shown for comparison and selected separately. Stain colors are not represented by the wood previews.
Choose the available options in Your configuration. Your selection updates the item price and is saved with your order.
Compare wood and finish at home
Choose four to 24 physical samples to compare in your own lighting before selecting wood and finish for a future Rasterdeck product. Choose the species and two distinct finishes for each sample; species may repeat.
Follow each finish across the grain
Each broad face and one cross-cut and one rip-cut edge share a finish. Two thin polished brass inserts per face sit edge-on near the corresponding edges, so their visible plate edges mark the matching surfaces.
Optional opposite-end inlays
Add ebony, polished brass, or both together to any sample. Choose Face A, Face B, or both faces. Per sample, one face costs $20 for ebony, $40 for brass, or $60 for both; both faces cost $40, $80, or $120 respectively.
Use them as coasters
After choosing your preferred wood and finish, use the samples as coasters. Wipe spills promptly; protect them from standing water and excessive heat. Do not put them in a dishwasher.
Future wood product credit
Receive $50 toward eligible Rasterdeck wood products for every full $100 of paid sample-kit merchandise. Credit is applied when a future purchase qualifies.
Matching face and edge finishes
A small brass sliver at the right-hand end of the cross-cut edge and another near the upper right-hand corner of the rip-cut edge identify the two edge surfaces finished to match the broad face. Each marker is one thin brass plate driven edge-on into the wood, not a round pin or a full-height band.
Compare satin black and piano black
Add one black finish comparison sample. It has satin black on one broad face and polished piano black on the other, so you can compare sheen and appearance at home. This additional piece does not require a wood species selection. The estimated preparation time increases by three weeks; we make every effort to ship earlier.
Compare Piano red and Piano black
Add one Piano red / Piano black comparison sample for $75. It has Piano red on one broad face and Piano black on the other, so you can compare the opaque painted colors at home. This additional piece does not require a wood species selection. The estimated preparation time increases by three weeks; we make every effort to ship earlier.
