Choosing a sixteen-input analog A/V switcher

Choose a 16-input composite and S-Video switcher by counting source positions, checking your display and planning control and cable connections.

Count complete source positions

The 16-Input Analog A/V Switcher has sixteen numbered source positions, each carrying composite video, S-Video and stereo audio. One selected position feeds one corresponding output set. Count devices rather than individual plugs, and note which format each device actually supplies.

Example signal path: selection without format conversion
  1. Up to 16 composite or S-Video sources with stereo RCA audio
  2. 16-input A/V switcher selects one source
  3. One matching composite or S-Video output with stereo audio
  4. Compatible CRT, display or separate processing equipment

Keep selection, conversion and distribution separate

A switcher chooses a source. An encoder changes a compatible signal format. A distribution amplifier sends one source to several destinations. Two copies of one selected source are different from two independently selected sources; independent destination routing needs a separate custom scope.

Check the display input

Composite remains composite and S-Video remains S-Video through the switcher. The destination must accept that output format and timing. An HDMI-only display requires a separate suitable converter; switching does not provide scaling, mixing or picture-in-picture.

Plan the controls and installation

List the control interfaces your installation needs and compare them with the selected switcher configuration before ordering. Document source labels, cable lengths, equipment locations and access to connectors. For a dry-contact control input, use the specified contact wiring rather than applying an arbitrary voltage.

Choose the standard build or discuss another routing job

If sixteen sources feeding one output set matches your system, review the current switcher options. For independent destinations or different connectors, include your source and display list in a custom-build inquiry.
