What it does
Understory is a made-to-order hardwood platform for a turntable or other appropriately sized audio component. Telescoping hardwood feet contain replaceable steel compression springs selected for the equipment's complete operating weight. The selected configuration determines the platform size, wood, finish and spring set. An optional CNC engraving is concealed beneath the equipment in normal use. Confirm the supported load range, footprint and ventilation clearance for your component before ordering. No measured isolation performance is claimed for the current listing.
Required but not included
- Compatible audio component with known complete operating weight and footprint
- Stable furniture or rack surface supporting the combined platform and equipment load
- Equipment manufacturer/model, width/depth, foot positions, ventilation and cable-clearance information
Included
- Reference design: standard size menu, approved wood/finish, routed edge and calibrated retained spring feet
- Serial plate, position-marked spring set, placement diagram and calibration record
- Concealed engraving is available as an option and includes proof review
What it does not do
- Confirm the complete equipment weight, footprint and supported spring range before ordering.
- No measured isolation or sound-improvement claim is made for the current listing.
- Use the foot count and leveling arrangement specified for the finished configuration.
- Two-color inlay, unusual loads and oversize configurations require a separate custom quote.

What it does
Understory is a made-to-order hardwood platform for appropriately sized turntables and audio components. Its spring-foot configuration depends on the equipment's complete operating weight, footprint and support layout.
A concealed detail
An engraving beneath the equipment can make the platform personal while keeping its visible surface restrained. Confirm the design, material and finish in the accepted configuration.
Spring-foot construction
Telescoping hardwood feet house replaceable steel compression springs. The spring set is selected for the platform and the declared equipment load. Use the platform only within the limits stated for its configuration.
Complete operating weight is required
Enter the complete operating weight of the equipment that will sit on the platform, including its platter, tonearm, dust cover, external motor when it shares the platform, every record weight or clamp that may be used, and any other item that will remain on the platform. Use the manufacturer’s specification or weigh the complete setup; do not enter shipping weight. Rasterdeck requires this value to select and calibrate the spring set supporting your equipment.
Matched to your equipment
Provide the equipment model, complete operating weight, dimensions and support-foot positions. Outboard motors or other items sharing the platform count toward the load. A configuration outside the available range requires a custom review.
Confirm the complete load
Include every record weight or clamp you may use in the operating weight. Changing equipment or adding substantial weight may require a different spring set or recalibration.
Build record
The configuration record identifies the platform, selected spring set and declared equipment load. Keep it for future changes or service.
Replacement springs and recalibration
Replacement springs are supplied as complete serialized, position-marked sets: $79 for a replacement calibrated set or $149 plus shipping for a set with mail-in foot recalibration. A changed or unknown platform or out-of-range load requires a custom quote. If Rasterdeck selected the wrong set for accurate supplied information, correction belongs under the applicable warranty, not a paid upgrade.
Operating limits
Use only the load range and spring-foot configuration stated for the finished platform. Confirm level placement, ventilation and clearance for the supported equipment. Ask us to review a change in equipment or load.
Ordering and configuration
Configuration and specifications are confirmed during order review. Ask for the measurements and documentation applicable to your build.
Made-to-order price and scope
Base price $1,019. Estimated production 8 weeks. Exact configuration, included items, exclusions and ship date are agreed before payment.
